Laurie Seltenright

I was fortunate to spend my early childhood in Petoskey, Michigan.  In college I majored in fine arts at Denver University and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  My last year of college was spent near Oslo, Norway studying textiles, design and film.  From there I went on to a career in film production in Los Angeles for Columbia Pictures and Lucas Productions in San Rafael.  After several years in the film industry, I settled back in the Midwest to start a family.  I later received an Associate Degree from Purdue University in Interior Design before moving back home to Harbor Springs.

With over 20 years of designing interiors, I place great importance on communication, follow-through and maintaining close working relationships with my clients. I have learned to look at design as through the lens of a camera. I place importance on room harmony and transition of color, light and form between spaces. Nature has always been an inspiration to me, and the profound simplicity of Northern Michigan is the perfect backdrop for interior design. My husband, my mini Australian Labradoodle and I take in the beauty, active lifestyle and quiet harmony living in Northern Michigan celebrates.

Our Firm

LS Design was created in 1988.  Our extensive experience and strong relationships with the most reputable sub-contractors, trades people and workrooms ensures the highest quality design work.  Each project brings a new opportunity for individualized design concepts. Our philosophy ensures our clients are comfortable and at home with the design process and project outcome. We take pride in interpreting our clients’ needs and visions, and transforming them into a unique custom environment.

We collaborate on design projects and place emphasis on function, scale and clarity of color. Our style is classic, ranging from cottage to traditional to contemporary. Our work features an array of design projects including lakefront cottages, residential estates, even yachts and a California ranch.  No project is too small or large, as we provide services from one-room makeovers to entire new home construction.

When projects call for specific pieces to fit a client’s needs and parameters, Laurie has designed custom furniture.  She has designed dining and coffee tables that have become a part of the new transitional line for Woodland Furniture Company.

LS Design has been featured in Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publications – Beautiful Kitchens & Baths, Summer 2012, Woman’s Day Specials Remodeling & Makeovers May 2010, Michigan Home & Lifestyle Summer 2010, Northern Home & Cottage August 2009 and Traverse Magazine September 2007 and will appear on the cover of the May 2012 issue of Yachting magazine and the cover of Woman’s Day Specials Remodeling & Makeovers spring of 2012 issue.
